Gerald Connell

CONNELL, Gerald Andrew   April 14, 1955 - June 1, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gerald Connell; Bernice (Peter Marsh), Diane (Glendon Keith) and Beverley (Kevin Shaw) and families, announces the passing of our brother and uncle.  Gerald died on Thursday June 1, 2017 after a brief but fierce battle with cancer.

Our parents Joe and Ruth (deceased) raised us and our late sister Shirley in Stayner and moved the family to Milton when we were teenagers.  Gerald lived and worked for many years in Kitchener but always called Milton home. He worked for thirty five years in the plastics manufacturing indstry for the same employer and has a work family there who will miss him as well.  Endless hours of playing scrub as a child fostered his life-long love of baseball.  He played and coached with several teams over the years, most notably a long stretch with the Campbellville Merchants.  In 2014, the Merchants (1952 - 1967 era) were the second team to ever be inducted into Baseball Ontario's Hall of Fame.  He was especially proud to have been part of the Merchants' inaugural induction to the Milton Sports Hall of Fame in November 2016.

He will be forever loved.

The family will receive visitors at J. Scott Early Funeral Home, 21 James St., Milton (905) 878-2669on Sunday June 4, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  A memorial service will take place on Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel.  The Heart and Stroke Foundation was close to Gerald's heart so any donations to the Foundation or the Cancer Society would be gratefully accepted.

You've got one life, you've got one glove

You've got one game, you've got one love

You've got one chance, you're just one man

So play the game as hard as you can.
