Memorial Dove Tree

In December of 2005, Kim and Rebecca Hunter began a new tradition at J. Scott Early Funeral Home.  On the first of the month, they decorated a Douglas Fir tree in the front room of the funeral home.  The tree was adorned with the eternal symbol of peace, white doves.  An invitation was issued to all those in the community who had suffered a loss to come and take a dove from this tree to take home as a memorial tribute to be included in their own seasonal decorations.  Each dove was replaced with a memory card, bearing the name of their friend or family member being honoured.  People were welcomed throughout the month and doves were given out until New Year's Eve.

This custom will continue through the years, and is in no way limited to the families served by this funeral home.  Anyone who has suffered a loss, either in the year just past or at any time is welcome.  The Hunters, and all the staff at J. Scott Early's realize just how difficult the festive season can be for those who are bereaved.
