My Aunt Elma will be remembered by me as the “hostess with the mostess” loooong before the art of entertaining was even a thing. She could whip up a party as if she were Bewitched. And she was my role model of what a love relationship should look like as she and Uncle Doug were as openly affectionate as two 16 year olds always. I never saw them any other way. I have only good memories of the times our families gathered. It was always a good time filled with crazy laughter. I, along with my family, Sam, Hilary and Hayley, send our deepest sympathies to the Gowland family and to my maternal family in Milton and especially Doug in Austin. Rest peacefully Aunt Elma.

Dear Jill, I am so sorry to hear of Boots passing. She was always one of my favourite residents. Always enjoyed chatting with her and loved how everything had to match in her wardrobe. May she rest in peace, Eileen xoxo

Boots arrived at Allendale shortly after my mother Alberta, They sat at the same table for quite some time and I am pretty sure they had a lot of inside jokes that none of us could understand. There was alot of laughs and a little dancing at that table. One day when I was in the dining room, Boots stopped me and asked me for a Martini I told her I would be right back with one and that was the beginning of our friendship. Every visit with my Mom always included Boots for some or all of the visit which I really enjoyed. I will miss seeing her but I also know this is a blessing as well. Dance away Boots!!!

Dear Jill
You won’t remember me but when your Grandmother Mary lived on King Street in Milton, my brother Richard Randell and I would come and play with you and Murray and often took you both to the Roxy show. About 4 years ago Janet Clark both our Mother’s caregiver at Allendale, introduced my Mom Amelia Randell (deceased) and me to Boots. Neither of these grand old ladies had any recollection of their connection but enjoyed visiting in the Allendale garden. It really is a small world.......your Grandfather Sam Randell and my Grandfather John Randell were brothers.
My sincere sympathy to you and Murray

My name is Steven. I met Boots on my first day of work at Allendale. It was also Boots first day at Allendale. In my report for my first day, we were told there was a new resident. Her name was Elma, but she went by “Boots”. Her and I had that special bond and I always enjoyed my time chatting with Boots and about her time in El Paso. She will be greatly missed and my condolences go out to her family

I am so saddened to hear of Boots’ passing. My name is Stephen and I am a 21 year volunteer at Allendale. I met boots many years ago in Allen House where I would occasionally play the piano and I always enjoyed taking the time to chat with her and often she would attend the Sunday church services and we would sit together. A wonderful, beautiful lady, I will miss her dearly. In my prayers, may she Rest In Peace.

Karen & I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family & friends of 'Boots' Gowland. We have many fond memories of her during the 6+ years she resided at Allendale. She always liked getting treats from me whenever I did the Travelling Tuck Shop & always smile at me when I was conducting the church services on Sunday mornings .. & afterwards tell me I had delivered the same sermon for the past 4 or 5 weeks (& we would laugh together). Karen always enjoyed having 'Boots' at the sing-a-long & exercise programs she conducted in the Allen wing where 'Boots' resided.
We are grateful for the wonderful obituary that has been posted for 'Boots' for it contains a lot of special & interesting information about her life that we unfortunately were not unaware of.
While 'Boots' will be missed at Allendale, she will never be forgotten.

Dear Jill and Doug, your words are beautifully chosen for your mom, Boots...and having streets named after both 'old' Milton families is so special. I had the pleasure of meeting her at Birkdale and then Allendale, wish I had known her in years gone by. My condolences to you both; lots of family memories will come to the present in the days ahead. Affectionately, Laurie MacNab
