Obituary of Elma Gowland

Please share a memory of Elma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Life, a full circle dance Born and raised in Milton, Elma M. Randall met her future husbands at Milton public school. But in High school Elma wore a pair of special rubber boots and Doug Gowland nicknamed her “Boots”. And forever after Elma was affectionately known as “Boots”. Perhaps it was the nickname that supported her adventurous energy. Her first husband Jack Robertson died in Germany in WW II. As a war widow “Boots” worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Milton and travelled to Edmonton to pursue her banking career. Then Doug Gowland called her back to Ontario. To Doug she was always his “ever loving bride”, his favourite dance partner, and golf partner. Doug took her away from Milton, and into the life of a military wife. His career helped him introduce “Boots” to soldiers and officers, to his Pentagon pals, to Mamie Eisenhower, to his American Officer buddies from the Pentagon days who remembered “Boots” when they saw her in Vietnam, and El Paso. Generals remembered “Boots”. Whenever living in Canada “Boots” career included secretary to professors at Queens, for anesthesiologists in Winnipeg, public school secretary in Ottawa, and distribution manager at Canadian General Tower in Oakville. Doug and “Boots” enjoyed happy hour with friends, golfing on weekends, and in retirement they owned a winter home in Florida on a golf course, and a summer home on a golf course in Burlington, Ontario. “Boots” had some special friends, and loving family in Milton and Burlington. All are warmly appreciated. She will be sadly missed by her son Murray Douglas Gowland (Austin, TX), daughter Jill J. Gowland (Oakville)and her many nieces, nephews and extended family. Her family thanks Dr. N. Wong and all the staff at Allendale in Milton for keeping mom safe and well cared for during her years of dementia. Mom loved music, liked to dance and now has gone off to dance with her ever-loving husband Doug Gowland.
