Obituary of Frances Kathryn Wood

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Sunday, February 21st, 2021, peacefully with her dear son at her side, Frances Kathryn (Kathy) Wood of Milton, ON passed away. Beloved wife of and best friend of the late Jerry Vezina (1994). Loving mother of Ken Vezina (Anna). Incredibly proud grandmother of Elliot and Weston Vezina. Daughter of the late Charles Osborne Wood and Edna Crutchlow. Sister of Donald Wood (Anita) and the late Charles Robert Wood (late Gwen). A native of Montreal, PQ, Kathy grew up a huge Montreal Canadiens and Alouettes fan and loved spending time by the water at the family lake house. In adulthood she moved to Winnipeg where she met the love of her life, Jerry, and soon they would welcome Ken into the world. Kathy was an incredibly devoted mother, always supportive, kind, compassionate, and with a sharp sense of humour. Always a warm smile and a big hug. Kathy worked at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg for many years in the payroll department and formed deep friendships with co-workers and those she served. She was also blessed with five stepdaughters, Candy (Bob), Laureen (Bobby), Cindy (Stephen), Sandra (Vince), and Jodi, and many step-grandkids whom she loved dearly. Upon Jerry’s sudden passing in 1994, Kathy’s bond with her son grew stronger as they turned to each other for support, managing their grief together through laughter and sports. In 2004 Kathy moved to London, ON to be close to her brothers Bob and Don and their families. Then retired, she volunteered her time to Meals on Wheels London where she helped seniors get to doctor’s appointments and run errands. She loved card games with her friends and frequent travels to Florida. In 2015 she relocated finally to Milton, ON to be close once again to Ken and his young family. While she was no longer as physically capable as she once was, her cheerful attitude and easy-going nature allowed her to build a bond with friends and staff at Martindale Gardens Retirement Home. She was enamored with her first biological grandkids Elliot and Weston, playing “mini-sticks” or baseball in the rec room and being surrounded by their gleeful laughter. While words were often elusive, “Mum’s” warm smiles and big hugs were always available, right up till her final day. A casually-attired, socially distanced visitation will be held at the J. Early Scott Funeral Home, 21 James St, Milton, ON. As there are space limitations due to the pandemic if you plan to visit in-person please RSVP to Virtual visitation will be made available live at 11:00am. Link to come. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate in Kathy’s name to Meals on Wheels London.
