Obituary of John Francis Hickson
John F. Hickson (1930-2022) John Francis Hickson of Milton, Ontario, Canada passed away on Tuesday, March 8th 2022, having recently turned 92 years of age. Born in Roxeth (Harrow), England, to Francis T. and Winnie Hickson, he served as a Corporal in the Medical Corps of the British army prior to beginning his career in the photographic industry with Kodak England, as a Sales Representative in their professional film division. He married his school sweetheart Isobel Hannah Dale in 1953, and settled in Maghull, Lancashire where they started a family. In 1966 he emigrated with his family to Canada, developing a professional reputation for his photographic knowledge and personal integrity, while fostering many life-long friendships during his career with Kodak Canada, National Color Labs of New Jersey, (USA) and FujiFilm Canada. He lived in Milton, ON for many years before retiring from Fuji in 1994 to Ridgeway, ON. Many medical challenges brought him and his wife back to Halton in 2015, to be closer to his family with whom he managed to champion his way through several illnesses. An insatiable reader, he was also a lover of Dixieland jazz, swing and classical music. He had an enthusiasm for history, photography, and comedy, but they all came second to his love of, and for, people. Whether meeting new people, making new friends or cherishing old ones, people were John’s foremost passion. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Isobel, his son Andrew (Carmen), and his grandchildren, Simon, Dylan (Jessica), Eric (Michelle), and his great-grandson Shiloh John. He was predeceased by his daughter Jennifer in 2021. Standing just 5'6" he was, and will remain, a giant in his family's eyes.
