Mary Sadgrove

Obituary of Mary Hamilton Sadgrove

In loving memory of Mary Hamilton Sadgrove, who passed away peacefully on March 27th, 2022 at the age of 94. Mary is greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Steven (Wendy) and Peter (Andrea) and by her ten grandchildren (in order of birth), Jonathan, Gary, Sadie, Chris, Wesley, Joanna, Jaime, Ben, Joseph and Claire. She will also be missed by ten great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Mary was born on June 19th, 1927 in Bath, UK, the younger child of Algernon Creighton and Norah Willoughby. Mary is predeceased by her husband Leslie, her brother Wesley, and her beloved daughter Maryann. Mary worked all of her life, and had a variety of jobs while raising her children, including managing both a vinyl record store and a safari park gift store. She ended her career working in human resources and as a career guidance counsellor. In 1994, Mary moved to Canada to be closer to her family who had settled here. As well as being a wonderful mother and grandmother, Mary had many interests. A highly skilled needlewoman, our houses are filled with her work. Mary loved to travel, including two visits to New Zealand to spend time with her brother Wesley, whom she greatly admired. She also enjoyed attending the theatre and reading. Mary’s greatest love was her family. Her life was not without hardship, but she weathered it all with tenacity, grace, and a quick wit. By her presence alone, Mary made every room she was in feel warmer and more welcoming. In 2015, after a period of ill-health, Mary moved to Post Inn Village Long Term Care Home. She was deeply loved by many of the staff members there, who enjoyed her wonderful sense of humour. The family would like to thank the staff for taking such good care of her and making her last years comfortable. If desired and in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Willow Foundation, in Canada, or Dorothy House in the UK.
