Obituary of Robert Walker

Robert Bruce Walker, age 94, of Oakville, Ontario, passed away on February 8, 2022.
Bob was born on August 25, 1927 in Buckingham, Quebec to Bruce and Cora Walker. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from Queen’s University. After graduating, Bob then worked for General Electric on hydroelectric power installations, later moving to Shawinigan Falls, Quebec. There he worked for Shawinigan Chemicals and met his future wife, Mary. After they were married, Bob and Mary moved to St. Bruno, Quebec where they raised their two boys. Bob’s career then took them to Mississauga, Calgary and Oakville where he later retired. Bob and Mary later moved to Milton, before returning again to Oakville.
Bob was always an active member of the community, from being involved in the local school board when his children were young to being a member of the Rotary Club in both Oakville and Milton. While living in Milton, Bob helped found Milton Transitional Housing and was a founding member of Faith United Church. He was an avid skier, hiker and curler, competing in the Ontario Senior’s Winter Games in his 80-s and continuing to ski past the age of 90.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Elizabeth (Whyte) Walker, his sons, Peter Whyte Walker and Anthony Bruce Walker, and grandchildren Maura, Lauren, Tristan and Mackenzie. He was predeceased by his parents and three siblings.
A remembrance service will be held at St. John’s Church, 262 Randall Street in Oakville, Ontario on June 22nd at 2:00 p.m.
