Stanley “Stan” Shaver passed away peacefully at Mississauga, Ontario on September 7, 2022 in his 92nd year. He was born, the youngest of 5, in Clarkson in 1931 to Milton and Helen “Nellie” Shaver. He was raised on the family farm/orchard in Lorne Park. In 1952, he joined the O.P.P. and began a 20 year policing career with several forces that included New Toronto, Trafalgar Township and Oakville Police. In 1957 he married the love of his life Marlene Sherwood and together they had 3 children; Eleanor, Heather and Howard. In 1972 the family moved to the Palmerston, Ontario area where Stan and Marlene operated the Elm Park Motel for several years. Stan finished his working days with the LCBO.
Although he left the family farm at 21 the farm never left him. He was an avid vegetable gardener his whole life and was still pruning apple trees earlier this spring. He had a passion for sports, as a player in his youth and as a fan later in life. He was also a long time Shriner and helped rise thousands of dollars to support Shrine Children’s Hospitals and charities.
Above all he was a family man. His family was his life. He was a loving Father and Grandfather. His granddaughters Meghan, Caitlin and Mackenzie would light up his face when they walked in the room.
Stan was predeceased by his wife Marlene. He is survived by daughters Eleanor and Heather, son Howard (Susan) and granddaughters Meghan, Caitlin (Kevin) and Mackenzie (Jeremy). He is also survived by one sister, Thelma Harris.
Per Stanley’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, to celebrate Stan’s life, donations can be made to the charity of your choice or to honour his memory perform a random act of kindness.
