Obituary of Hans Hansen

Please share a memory of Hans to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hans Oluf Voigt Hansen – June 5th,1934 – September 19th, 2022 Hans passed away peacefully on Monday September 19th, 2022 at Mount Nemo Christian Nursing Home, his home for the past 3 years. He was in his 88th year. Hans was born in Denmark and in 1954 at the young age of 19 decided to embark on a journey across the Atlantic to visit an uncle who was living in Alberta. Unexpected turn of events put a hold to that adventure and Hans remained in Ontario, working for Sheridan Nurseries putting his training as a florist to good use. For the next three years Hans continued to work at Sheridan but it was always his dream that one day he would own his own gardening business. That dream was fulfilled and for the next 40 plus years, Rainbow Landscaping operated as a very successful gardening business in and around the Milton area. With a work force at one point of around 35 employees the company secured numerous commercial contracts within the town of Milton and beyond. Even today there are still trees to be found around the town that were planted by Hans! Hans was a very hard worker but he was also very social. He enjoyed being in the company of others whether it was to shoot a game of pool or to discuss the events of the day! He was always eager to tell you a story or two. Hans was quite masterful at playing the harmonica and accordion. In his early years he enjoyed to travel and did eventually make it out to Alberta to see his uncle! But of all the enjoyments and hobbies that Hans maintained throughout his life his love of gardening was always front and centre! He definitely did have a “green thumb” when it came to planting and nurturing a garden. He loved to see a garden full of colour! Hans leaves behind Mary, his beloved partner of over 35 years. Together they created many beautiful gardens in Milton and for 9 years out in Victoria. Hans’ she would say “was her little buddy”! They enjoyed renovating and decorating their two homes one of which was featured on HGTV! Hans will be fondly remembered by his step-sons, Dave (Elaine) and Doug (Diana) and by his five grandchildren and partners and by his three great grandchildren. Dearly remembered by his siblings in Denmark, Sonia, Ingrid and Taggart along with nieces and nephews. During the last three years of his life Hans was a resident of Mount Nemo Christian Nursing Home in Burlington. Our family will always be so grateful for the amazing care and support they gave Hans during this time. Our world for all of us was turned upside down for two years during Covid but the amazing team of dedicated people at Mount Nemo who worked tirelessly day in and day out were instrumental in keeping Hans and many other residents safe and secure. Thank You to them! In Lieu of flowers the family suggest a donation be given to Mount Nemo Christian Nursing Home, Burlington.
