Obituary of Thomas Gordon Powell

Thomas (Tom) Gordon Powell of Milton passed away unexpectedly at the age of 73 on September 20, 2022, due to complications after surgery. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Born on September 10, 1949, Tom grew up in Norwich, Ontario and graduated from Mohawk College with a degree in Business Administration. Tom’s career started as a teenager in his dad’s store, Gordon Powell Appliances that eventually led him to a successful career in the home appliance industry including Building Division Manager at Camco Inc., Division Sales Manager at Whirlpool Canada and Director Commercial Sales at T.G. Appliances Group. Tom’s pride and joy were evident while driving his C7 Corvette and cruising Lakes Ontario, Lake Erie, and the Trent-Severn Waterway in his powerboat. In pursuing these activities, he actively participated in the Corvette Club of Ontario and the Oakville Power Boat Club. He had a passion for sports and especially enjoyed watching and mentoring his sons and grandsons in hockey, lacrosse, and football. His passion for life and having fun led him to develop many lifelong friends while pursing his motto “work hard, play harder”. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate: Isabelle Dupuis; sons: Chris (Trish) and Matt (Samantha); grandchildren: Will, Sam (Jolin), Max, Ben, and Evie; sister, Anne (Nan); brother, Martin (Wendy); brother-in-law, Pierre Dupuis (Danièle); sisters-in-law, Christine Dupuis and Suzanne Dupuis (Michel); nieces, Vanessa (Matt) and Ariane Latour; nephews, Daniel, Marc-André Dupuis (Ariane), Jean-Sébastien Dupuis (Sara), Philippe Jolivet (Dan) and Guillaume Jolivet; five grand nephews; one grand niece; uncle, Samuel Helsdon as well as many cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Betty Powell as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, between 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at J.
