Diane Mackay, aged 78, of Milton, Ontario, passed away peacefully in the company of family on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
Diane is lovingly remembered by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth Ronald Mackay, as well as her daughter, Linda Watson (Tim), and granddaughters, Laura and Annie Watson, all of Milton, Ontario. She is also survived by her sister, Lesley Inglefield, and nieces and nephew, Jane, Karen and David Inglefield of Chapel-en-le-Frith, England.
Diane was born to John and Norma Stockbridge in Manchester, England. After emigrating to Canada in 1965, she held a variety of positions with the Toronto-Dominion Bank before marrying in 1977 and choosing to be mostly a stay-at-home Mom from the early ‘80s onwards.
Throughout her life, Diane frequently volunteered within the community in a variety of ways. This included helping out at her daughter’s elementary school, St. Mark (in Mississauga), with field trips and events like “hot-dog” days, as well as being a Brownie leader, and working as an enumerator during several elections. In addition, Diane campaigned for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years and, later in her life, volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels in Milton.
What Diane loved most was socializing with her many friends, especially Gwen and Tina whose friendship started at the TD Bank and lasted a lifetime. She always enjoyed chatting with her neighbours, travelling with our family, long neighbourhood walks (at times accompanied by a family dog), and good food. Diane played many sports throughout her life including soccer, tennis, and later curling. She also loved watching English football (soccer) and held an unwavering, if sometimes unjustified, devotion to Manchester United FC.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Benedict Parish, 300 Yates Drive in Milton on Friday, December 2, at 1 p.m.
A Celebration of Life gathering will follow the service at Linda and Tim Watson's home. All family and friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be appreciated.
