GRANT, John Bernard: July 2, 1925 ~ July 26, 2009

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday July 26, 2009 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Son of the late Bernard and Sarah Grant; John age 84, was the beloved husband and best friend of Kathleen "Kay", for 62 years. Beloved father of Patricia (Norm) Langlois, Karen (Stan) Hyatt, Bradley (Bonnie) Grant, Denise (Neil predeceased) Newell, Teresa (Peter) Davidson and Keith (predeceased). Loving grandfather to Stephen, Michelle, Kim, Jason, Jennifer, Heather, John, Katie and Robbie; great grandfather and uncle to many nieces and nephews. John is survived by his three sisters Sally, Rodie (Joe) and Sheila, and predeceased by five brothers and three sisters. Born in Westport, Ontario, John and Kay made their way to Hamilton before settling in their Milton home where John honed his skills as an entrepreneur. John's love for adventure and challenges served him well in the trucking business, golf course business and horse racing game, and his children have followed those same challenges. John was an avid horseman who owned many top horses and was a founding partner in Flamboro Downs Raceway. John was voted into the Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 1998 as an owner/builder and also had his Champion race horse, Bettor's Delight voted into the hall in 2007. John's love was his wife Kay, but his pleasures included boating, RVing in their motor home and fishing " how he loved his fishing! John was a devoted husband and father and a man of honour who stood by his convictions and did things his way; a man who enjoyed the challenge, the chase and the victory. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. The family will receive visitors at the J. SCOTT EARLY FUNERAL HOME, 21 James St., Milton 905-878-2669 on Tuesday from
